It has all the makings of a tragic love story. There’s history between the main characters that have forced them apart more than it’s ever brought them together. There’s tragedy as she’s brought him almost nothing but pain, suffering and death. And not just once but twice. And then there’s the loss of time. Both of the young lovers have been robbed one way or another of important time.
I don’t want this to sound fanboyish but I think that Bendis has a number of excellent stories to tell and he’s using The New Avengers to tell them. But they’re not Avengers stories. They may have elements of Avenger’s lore to them (Hawkeye in the past has expressed some type of feelings for Wanda) but he’s picked up on what he likes and pushes the characters into some strange situations. Going back at least 15 years to John Byrne’s Avengers West Coast run and even earlier, Wanda has been shown to be unstable but Bendis has pushed her into strange boxes that he wants the character to be in.
